UPDATE: Carter is continuing to do well
and has been weened to 44% oxygen.
Carter has been having
a few problems. Despite being the biggest, his lungs seemed to
have been the least developed. He's had trouble breathing since
the beginning. This is not unexpected nor unusual with preemies.
He was put on a venilator lFriday night, but his Carbon Dioxide
levels remained high. Around 6 PM Saturday, the Dr. put him on
an ultrafast "hummingbird" respirator and he has responded
to that very well. His Carbon Dioxide levels have fallen to normal
levels and if he remains stable, he will be weaned off the venillator
over the next 48 hours.
